Gary is a born and bred Tasmanian with a genuine convict heritage.
He has been involved with ARAFMI for 10 years or more. Initially like many ARAFMI volunteers he sought much needed help from AFAFMI to deal with a family crisis. More recently he served as a member of the southern committee, and now is President of ARAFMI Tasmania.
Gary worked in sport and recreation for most of his working life with State Government Departments in South Australia and here in Tasmania. Since retiring two years ago, ARAFMI and commitments to the Uniting Church have occupied his time, plus looking after a 2 ½ year old grand daughter at least one day a week. Oh, and occasionally some domestic duties if pressured by an understanding wife.
A long time interest in Carlton and Glenorchy during the football season bring joys and disappointments during the long winter months until cricket begins in the summer. Gary plays table tennis on Monday nights, walks long and hard often as possible and reads widely.
Gary is committed to building ARAFMI Tasmania into a state-wide organisation providing much needed support to carers and families of people with a mental illness. To do this there is much work to be done but it is fun working with a committed and talented group of people who share his vision . |
